Description

Hello there, this time I will review a tdm map with the name SinJage+ made by Anthy. Anthy already made several custom maps for Warsow,
e.g. the skyjumping map which was quite famous for a short time. SinJage is his most serious work and I would say also his best so far. I have choosen by myself to review
this map. Here we go.

The map is intended as a 2vs2 or 3vs3 tdm map, a quite strange player amount as not many people are playing 2vs2/3vs3 tdm. The map consists out of 3 stages, everyone except the lowest obtains a round flow. The connectivity is pretty nice, you can reach the other stages through more ways, most of the time jumppads but there are also a few ramps, stairs and a tele. Very interesting is that the second and especially the third stage contain alot of small height changes which creates a great battlezone.
The first stage is quite uninterestingly build, there are just two pits connected through a hallway which shouldn't offer that diversified fights.
The author really created a great layout and you can see that he thought a lot about it. One thing is e.g. the tele, when an enemy jumps before you in the tele you can simply intercept him by using the ramp right next to the tele. Unfornately the item placement isn't that great. The shell is at the same place as the megahealth but they are too near to the red armor. Also the weapon ammunition is placed too near to the weapons, especially at the third floor, you will find a rocketlauncher with 2 ammo boxes just a few metres away, also the plasma ammo and the laser gun ammo are lying too near to their weapons. They should have been placed like the grenadelauncher, the riotgun and the electrobolt, those weapons are far away from their ammo boxes which creates more movement of the players. Spawnpoints are set well, there is no spawn at the first stage, but that's better because there is no single weapon. The player spawning at the top floor will have a much better starting position as the players spawning on the second, as the players on the top can get lg&ammo, pg&ammo, rg and rl&ammo really fast and as mh&ra spawning at their floor they can outrun the other team really fast.
Luckily the two yellow armors placed at the first and second stage are good set and far enough away from the ra&mh. The ra spot is at a good open and a nice risky place to get it, the quad area is as already said a bit too simple build, but the mh/shell spot too boring. It would have probably been better to exchange the quad with the ya at the first floor or to let the ya jumppad on first floor go to the third floor and the quad jumppad only to the second. Locations are there too, which makes the map playable in all team modi. The performance is very good, as the map is quite small it serves a very good vis. The tris values never went over 7000 in my case.
The fps stayed high, I only got some drops at the +50 area.

The design is very nice and could fit well in the Warsow universe. There are not many curves but that's not that bad, as the author still creates a very intense atmosphere.
The brushwork is quite good and gladdens the eye with sweet lamps connected through cables. The area looks a bit timeworn as you can see that the rock and many tiles are already broken. Especially the look at the sky through the rock hole with the cables looks stunning (even if it doesn't make any sense ;) ). As already said in the gameplay area the floors have a good change of height which looks simply great and is far better than any plain floor. The first floor is filled with a bit of water and there are broken pillars, crates are standing here and there and crushed walls everywhere around you. Especially the horizontal lamps that lights the rock wall looks really great.
The textures are all fitting well, the author created an very nice diversity between the three main colors of the map (brown, grey and black) which creates a nice charming but still very dark atmosphere. Already quite a lot of different textures were used, e.g. three different rock textures. A lot of metal textures are used but there are also some concrete textures, fences and grates. All textures are coming from Warsow but he made a good use of them. I missed a bit more color in the map, like maybe some red or blue cables too and also a bit hightech like a screen or a cable shaft wouldn't have hurted that much, but it's already pretty good as it is. Deluxemapping is also on.
The lighting is quite sparse but this only strenghtens the dark atmosphere of the map. Light color is more or less plain white, I hoped for a bit blue at the lower floor, which would have strenghten the effect of the water ( and would have made the area visually more interesting). But all lamps are good set and create good shadows, especially the light which shines at the rock (which I already said before) looks really nice.
These parts create an amazing atmosphere.

Anthy made a really nice looking tdm map, a shame that it lacks of better item placement. Nethertheless this is probably one of the best 2vs2 tdm maps you will find.
Especially the layout is fantastic and looks very professional. If I wouldn't know better I would say that this map is an official one ;)
So if anyone is playing 2vs2/3vs3 tdm there, check out these map, I bet you will have some great games on it!
